Impress – Flexible Display

Impress is a tactile touchscreen created by Silke Silsing from FH Würzburg, and is a matter of a flexible display consisting of foam and force sensors which is deformable and feels pleasantly soft. Impress works with the parameters position and time like other touch screens as well, but in addition to that, it reacts, above all, on the intensity of pressure.

Chevrolet Mexico has recently launched the teaser website for the Camaro 2010. Quite disappointing for such a famous car.  As almost all car-related websites around there, we expected a more engaging experience, but there isn’t.   On this website you can only see a 360° view of the car, submit your answer to the question “What would you do with a Camaro 2010?”, subscribe for a newsletter and see a timeline showing photographs of the car.  Don’t click.

As we discussed previously, tangible media is becoming a reality day after day and one of the most attractive applications are the interactive surfaces in bars and restaurants.

Springwise published recently a post covering iBar, a commercial solution by Mindstrom that enables any bar with a multi-touch and interactive digital surface. The iBar is equiped with a software that continually maps the position of every object touching the surface and then triggers projected content that interact dinamically with the movement in the counter.  Multiple people can interact at once and can even start games or enable bluetooth technology to let users download content.

Imagine a bar that can detect when your product’s pack is placed on the bar… and then trigger other actions, maybe online, maybe not…

Along the time we have been forced to adapt our habits to new technologies that promise to facilitate the way in which we work. Thus, we have adopted the mouse and the keyboard as the main tools to interact with computers. We have also adopted the windows concept and the fact that we can only make one task at a time (minimize a window, scroll or change the window’s size are tasks that can’t be performed simultaneously) as our paradigm for human-computer interaction.

Smashing Magazine published recently an article showing some improvements regarding the user’s experience.

Cheoptics360
It is a product by Vizoo that can display 3D holograms with an altitude from 1.5 to 30 meters, regardless it is outside or inside.

Reactable
It is a collaborative musical instrument with a touchable interface in which many users can control the instruments simultaneously by moving or rotating physical objects that are placed over the surface.

Multi-Touch
This is a device that accepts many commands at the same time through different fingers of the same or different persons. Through the interface the virtual objects can be manipulated and the user is able to interact with the system with many fingers, just as with the iPhone interface.

Microsoft Surface
Surface is a Microsoft’s product that enables multiple users to manipulate virtual objects at the same time through a touchable table. The system is able to sense the objects that are placed over it and communicate with them in case of electronic devices such as cameras or mp3 players.
